A Tribute to My Appappan- Life, Death and Love

This post is for all those who like reading a Dramatic Story, ... Though I would describe it that way, for me and my family it was a Real life experience...A Real Life Dramatic Love Story of My Grandfather's Death - Our Beloved "Appappan".

On Saturday morning I received a call from my Dad stating that my Grandfather was very sick. My Dad told me to be prepared as there are high chances that Appappan may not survive that day. Being a weekend, reaching hometown wasn't easy. Midnite connection trains and waiting in Gents waiting room weren't as interesting as the later half of the Drama.

On reaching hometown, I was welcomed by the monsoon of Kerala. Nothing looked changed and potholes on the road just reminded me further of my unchanged hometown.

We immediately went to meet Appappan who was in the ICU. A waiting room was provided for the bystander to stay and for those who wanted to wait for their turn to visit the ICU. Without the patient, such rooms normally turned noisy during visiting hours. I met a lot of familiar family-iers there who had come from far and near to see our Appappan.

Our visit to the ICU was filmi. Only one member was allowed to enter the ICU and the others had to watch Appappan through a big glass window. All of us (the unfortunate lot) tried our level best to catch Appappan's attention through this glass window. Tears rolled down our cheeks as we waved to Appappan and we all hoped that it wasn't our last Bye-Bye to him. We watched Grandpa murmuring to the staring nurse beside him and each one of us even today believes that Appappan was calling out our names.
Doctors at the hospital stated that it was a Miracle that Appappan was alive even with multiple organs failing. The waiting room slowly became silent and I went back home with my other family members that day.

At home Grandma our Ammama suddenly developed high fever. While bathing her we saw that she had developed bedsore and had become extremely weak.

The next thing I knew, an Ambulance was called and Ammama was taken to the hospital. Her reports took her directly to the ICU. Both Appappan and Ammama were now in two different ICUs of the same hospital.

Ammama was diagonised with pnemonia. As destiny had it all in store, Ammama was moved to the same ICU as Appappan. Though we tried to keep it silent to Appappan and Ammama, it was almost impossible.

Panic had struck the daughters and sons of this lovely couple. And waiting rooms became more and more noisy as people came to see both Appappan and Ammama. It was as if God was taking His sweet time to choose His favorite soul.
2 days had passed and the doctors at the hospital said Miracles at the hospital were rare but Appappan's case was clearly one. Appappan and Ammama now waved back through the glass window to us from their side by side bed in the ICU.

The following day, Doctors at the hospital stated that arrangements for funeral could be thought about for Appapan as there was nothing more they could do for him. Discussions on Appappan's funeral now became the topic of the waiting rooms as people waited like scavengers.

Doctors made arrangements to move Appappan who was completely in senses to a room. Ammama, whose condition improved, was also moved to the same room. Here again they lie side by side, and once in a while we could see their eyes meeting as if hoping to repeat their 50 yrs of life together again.

Time just ticked away and slowly Appappan became silent... God Had chosen His favourite soul.

Ammama's pnemonia disappeared and she attended Appappan's funeral the following day in full health.

All of us who witnessed their Love now know why Miracles happen. And I consider myself  lucky to be born as my Appappan's and Ammama's grandchild.

May Appappan's Soul Rest in Peace.

A Poem from my Heart- "Pacifying Nature- the secret of success"

Pacifying Nature
As I sat with a distressed mind near the waters in the sea, I realized that the sea was calming me down.
As I stared with my worried heart to the trees around, I felt the breezy air cooling me up,
When I was alone at night I gazed at the sky and found a bright silver moon which made me realize that I was never alone,
As I was walking on the pavement with a troubled head, I was healed by the sudden pouring rain.
I cried aloud seeking for an answer and I saw the clouds drifting away as if letting me know that Time will pass
When I hurried, bored in course of my routine life, I saw the flocking birds that told me everybody has to do their job
As I tried to lazyly sleep chasing my dreams, I heard the calls of the chirping birds that told me, wake up and chase those dreams in life.
I take in now that, the secret of success remains in this purest Gift of God, who calls you to unite and learn your way
But all the while, I never knew I had a Gift in me which I realise now;
I was listening, watching and searching to unite in my way to this Pacifying Nature.
